The general formula for determining a cutoff in Rock Band or Rock Band 2 is:
cutoff_score = average_multiplier * total_base_score + ceiling(num_vocal_percussion * percussion_multiplier)

average_multiplier - value taken from the tables shown below
total_base_score - the sum of the base scores for all instruments involved in the performance
  • Guitar: base score = all notes played at 1x multiplier, all sustains held fully
  • Bass: base score = all notes played at 1x multiplier, all sustains held fully
  • Drums: base score = all notes played at 1x multiplier, including all notes under all fills
  • Vocals: base score = number of phrases * max points per phrase (varies by difficulty)
num_vocal_percussion - the number of percussion notes in the vocals chart, zero if vocals not involved
percussion_multiplier - varies depending on cutoff
  • 1 star: 31.25
  • 2 stars: 62.5
  • 3 stars: 93.75
  • 4 stars: 112.5
  • 5 stars: 125
  • gold stars: 125
