How To Add Paths

Overview

If you have a path to contribute to the wiki, here's how you can help:
  1. Upgrade or apply for access to edit song pages.
  2. Navigate to the song page where you wish to contribute a path.
  3. Either click "Edit" at the bottom of the page, or double-click somewhere inside the page.
  4. Change the existing {{path}} action or add a new {{path}} entry to the page.
  5. Click "Store" to save the changes.

Using the Path action: {{path}}

Here's some templates and examples for specifying paths on both single player and multiplayer pages. All parameters are optional, so you may include as much or as little information you have to describe a path.

To use the following templates:
  1. Copy and paste a template below into the appropriate song page.
  2. Remove any lines or parameters that don't apply (i.e instruments that don't exist, fields you can't provide, etc.).
  3. Replace the blank lines with data similar to that shown in the examples below.

Single Player

The following applies to single player pages such as solo guitar, bass, drums, or vocals.

Template

{{path
label="_____"
score="_____"
short="_____"
image="_____"
video="_____"

credit="_____"

Learning short Path Notations

One of the most common things provided to describe paths is shorthand notation. If not familiar, these can often be quite confusing at a glance. The community has adopted standards for each instrument to concisely and accurately portray a path in a short line of text.

To better understand these notations yourself, and to ensure you're contributing paths in a way others will be able to understand best, please refer to the PathNotations page.

If you come across a common notation that's not listed, please add a comment on that page letting us know what is missing.

Tips & Advice

For example, "Activate on 2nd G after the break" is much better than "Activate 3rd beat of measure 127".

why doesn't it show the notes and shorthand path on solo instruments if you put optimal or no squeeze, but it does when you put five-star (like in the example).

oh, and for any game besides RB1 and 2/WT/M, do you have to denote which instrument?
-- voidedalive2x (2009-05-26 15:06:24)
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking in your first question. The label doesn't affect what kind of data gets displayed, it only changes the heading.

For the next question, no. Even for RB1/2/WT/M, if you're on a solo instrument page it's not necessary to specify the instrument. If you're on a page that involves more than one instrument, however, then you need to break it down and specify what data goes with which instrument.

Actually, for the first question, i figured out why it did that. You need to put a reminder that the image and video fields need to have the "[[]]" brackets around the URL or the data won't show up. (however, the image or the link to the image won't show up)

and to the 2nd part of your comment, thanks.

As we discussed on the forums, the image and video fields should NOT have brackets around the URL - that's specifically why the link won't show up.

Just wanted to mention that here in case others see this and don't read the forums.
