Hyperspeed
Hyperspeed is a gameplay setting in
Game_GuitarHeroII Guitar Hero II∞, Game_GuitarHeroEncoreRocksThe80s Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks The 80s,
Game_GuitarHeroIIILegendsOfRock Guitar Hero III∞, Game_GuitarHeroAerosmith Guitar Hero: Aerosmith,
Game_GuitarHeroWorldTour Guitar Hero World Tour∞, and
Game_GuitarHero5 Guitar Hero 5∞ that makes the fretboard scroll faster during gameplay which makes the notes more spaced out. The
Game_RockBand2 Rock Band 2∞ equivalent is
Breakneck Speed. Although it has been a topic of much controversy, since Hyperspeed is technically a
cheat in all three games,
ScoreHero and the online leaderboards for each game accept scores with Hyperspeed and do not consider it to be a
cheat. On the
Starpower Podcast, Chris Vance stated that
Hyperspeed will be moved into an options menu in future iterations of Guitar Hero
[1], similar to Breakneck Speed in Rock Band 2.
In Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, hyperspeed is available on 5 levels (as well as being off entirely), 1-5, 1 being the slowest scroll speed and 5 being the fastest. The speed up of the fretboard is roughly equivalent to one level of hyperspeed per level of difficulty i.e. HS2 on Expert is equivalent to HS3 in hard.
In
Game_GuitarHero Guitar Hero 1∞ and
Game_RockBand Rock Band∞ some players use a "hyperspeed towel", that is hyperspeed is simulated by placing a towel or piece of paper over the TV at the top part of the fretboard, giving them less reaction time (
example∞).
