Multitasking

Multitasking is the term given to playing more than one instrument at the same time. Multitasking became popular when Game_RockBand Rock Band∞ was released, as some of the game modes required multiple instruments playing at the same time.

The most common form of multitasking is between vocals and another instrument, as singing into a microphone on a stand does not require the use of ones hands. Vocals and guitar/bass is often referred to as 'voxtar.' Vocals and drums is sometimes referred to as 'Phil Collins' mode (due to Collins' role as singer and drummer in the band Genesis). Other forms of multitasking are far more rare due to the inherent technical difficulties in playing two instruments at once, and are often just demonstrations of possibility rather than an actual practiced skill.
