Rock Revolution
Rock Revolution is a music-rhythm game developed by Zoë Mode and HB Studios and published by Konami. It was released on October 14, 2008 for the
Xbox 360,
PlayStation 3,
Wii and Nintendo DS.
Gameplay / Scoring System Notes
- Rock Revolution uses a precision system similar to DDR. Notes are judged as "Perfect," "Good," or "Missed" depending on where the note is hit in the timing window. If a note is hit perfectly, the note will light up with a white circle. If a note is hit without the white circle, it is considered "Good". On Guitar, "Good" notes are worth 75 base points, while perfect notes are worth 150. The value of a note on Guitar is not changed if it contains more notes (e.g. two or three-button chords)
- Ticks base at 10 points, unsure of the rate -- I (ajanata) got 1140 points in ticks on the first note in WGFA on both Perfect and Good hits. It seems to last just under 26 beats (lines).
- I timed that note, it lasts about 11.4 seconds -- this was only one trial, on one note, on one song, but it seems like ticks are 10 points per tenth of a second. More verification needs done but this seems like a pretty dang good guess.
- The multiplier ranges from 1x to 8x, rather than GH/RB's standard 1x to 4x (not counting Star Power/Overdrive).
- The "combo" (equivalent to note streak) meter increases with every note hit, but the multiplier "wedges" only increase with a "Perfect" hit
- 10 multiplier wedges to go on to the next multiplier (similar to GH/RB).
- If a note is missed, the combo is broken but the multiplier doesn't reset, but instead drops by 1x for every note missed. If a note is strummed on the wrong fret or if it is mis-timed, however, two multiplier levels will be lost.
- Dropping a hold does not break combo or lower multiplier, and it doesn't seem to affect the atmosphere level either but this should be checked
- The only way to get a non-mod10 score (on guitar) is to hit an odd number of Good notes on odd multipliers.
- On guitar parts, chords are not worth more in contribution to multiplier/combo. On the other hand, drum parts count each note in a drum track as a separate note, even if the notes are played at the same time.
- Drum score base = 25 points / note?
- Seems to have manually-placed HOPOs -- always. Or, manually placed strums. Best to say all HOPOs are placed until we have a way to look at the data files.
- During a held chord, you can press other buttons while holding the chord without making the hold to drop. You can also press higher fret buttons during held single notes without breaking combo (f.ex., pressing Y on a G hold). However, the same rules as GH and RB apply when actually hitting the note (i.e., chords must not have extra buttons, and single notes must not have higher notes).
Atmosphere Bonus (aka: Power Meter)
- When Rock Meter at top right corner is completely filled (blue maxed out), the blue section of the meter glows. At this point, you're allowed to gain a Power Meter bonus (which looks to be about a 25k bonus at 8x). A loading screen implies that the multiplier affects this.
- Activate on guitar by tilting or hitting select
- Activate on drums by hitting the "leftmost pad, rightmost pad, and kick pedal" (normally red and green) at the same time
Songlist
The console versions have 41 songs, while the DS version has 20. The end-game credits show that all but two of the songs are covers, with Given Up and Paralyzer being masters.
