Whereas the XBox 360 awards achievement points for the vast majority of its games, selected Playstation3 games will offer trophies for accomplishing certain feats within the game. The trophies awarded come in either bronze, silver, gold, or platinum varieties. Bronze trophies are the most common, while silver trophies are somewhat more difficult to achieve and gold trophies are the most difficult to achieve (often requiring the completion of a given game). The platinum trophy is only awarded for a game when the player earns all of the bronze, silver, and gold trophies available. Platinum trophies are generally not available for DLC games, such as Pixeljunk Eden or Super Stardust HD (exceptions are made for downloadable games that are also available on disc, such as Warhawk); platinum trophies also generally do not require the achievement of trophies that are tied to DLC add-ons to disc games, such as the extra trophies tied to the Mirror's Edge downloadable map pack.

Of the various Guitar Hero and Rock Band games released for the Playstation3 console, only Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero: Smash Hits support trophies. The trophies which can be earned for each game are as follows, as well as how to earn them:

Flawless Fretwork: Hit 100% of notes in a given song on Expert guitar
Flawless Drumming: Hit 100% of notes in a given song on Expert drums
Flawless Singing: Hit 100% of all phrases as a vocalist on Expert
Flawless Groove: Hit 100% of all notes in a given song on Expert bass, using up-strums only
Flawless Guitar Solo: Hit 100% of all notes in a guitar solo on Expert guitar, using only the Stratocaster's solo buttons
The Bachman-Turner Award: Maintain deployed Overdrive for at least 90 seconds (can be done either as an individual or in a band)
Million-Point Club: Earned more than 1,000,000 points in a single song
Victory!: Defeated a player in either Score Duel or Tug of War game modes
Comeback Kid: Defeat the last player that defeated you in either Score Duel or Tug of War game modes
Band Savior: Saved fellow members of a band 3 times within a single song
Hello Cleveland!: Deploy Overdrive four times in a single song on vocals
Overdrive Overdose: Achieve a band multiplier of 8X (all four band members have Overdrive deployed at the same time)
Clothes to the Edge: Bought over $100,000 worth of items from the in-game Rock Shop
Needs more Umlauts!: Made a band logo
The San Dimas 4th Annual Award: Competed in a Battle of the Bands contest
You're Hired!: Hired a staff member
You Killed the Radio Star: Made a music video within World Tour
Got Wheels: Won a Van in World Tour
Open Road: Won a Bus in World Tour
Jet Setter: Won a Jet in World Tour
Worldwide Sensation: Gained the ability to play around the world
West Coast Performer: Played a set on the West Coast of North America
